About Us

Serving Slabs was created to allow Derrick to combine his love of the outdoors with sustainability.  Derrick works with local suppliers and diverts unused stone from landfills.  Since April 2011 he has diverted on average 800 lbs of granite per month and hopes to divert tons (literally) of granite as the business grows.  He repurposes the discarded granite into beautiful household items such as serving trays, platters, cutting boards, lazy susans and business card holders.  With the variety of different colors and graining, no two pieces are alike.  He then chisels the raw slabs by hand, each into a unique shape usually determined by the natural characteristics of the stone.

Derrick started Serving Slabs working out of his home in Denver, CO.  Soon after, he moved his wife Wendy, dogs Dalton and Bandit and the business to Salida, CO, where he is able to live closer to family and enjoy the majestic Rocky Mountains.  Derrick has a shop in Salida, CO and sells his creations in many stores across Colorado, as well in New Mexico, West Virginia and Texas.  Thanks for looking, we hope to have a Serving Slab in your home soon!
